Agricultural insurance has broken records in 2020, which has just ended. According to data released by Agroseguro, the volume of premiums has reached 796.2 million euros, which indicates a growth of 1.6% and has become the highest figure in the 40-year history of this insurance. Likewise, the insured capital also reached its highest figure and amounted to 15,213.79 million, a 6.7% increase.
Agroseguro points out that the volume of insured production last year was close to 41 million tons, 13.1% more and the most significant growth occurred in arable crops (+23%), citrus (+11%), vegetables (+8%) and wine grapes (+1.3%). For its part, the total insured area reached 7.8 million hectares, which if complementary insurance is subtracted, the final figure exceeds 6.1 million hectares, 6.2% more than in 2019. As for livestock insurance, 315.7 million animals were insured in 2020, 2.7% less than in the previous year.
In addition, the number of insurance declarations made amounted to 415,975, 4.7% more than the previous year.
