The government will invest more than 450 million to boost the cybersecurity industry.

The Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, Carme Artigas, has visited the headquarters of the National Institute of Cybersecurity in León where she announced that the Government will invest more than 450 million in the next three years to boost the cybersecurity industry and attract talent.

The National Cybersecurity Institute will articulate this challenge through the new Strategic Plan 2021-2025, aligned with the Digital Spain 2025 agenda and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, and which confirms the Government's commitment to digital transformation and economic growth through public-private collaboration. The plan will be developed through three main axes that include (i) boosting the sector's business ecosystem and attracting talent, (ii) strengthening the cybersecurity of citizens, SMEs and professionals, and (iii) consolidating Spain as an international node in the field of cybersecurity.

The importance of this sector for Spain to have the necessary technical and human resources to meet the demands of national cybersecurity, and for the growth of R+D+i in our country's economy is highlighted.

Cybersecurity Industry

Spain has a cybersecurity industry with more than 20 years of experience, more than 1,600 companies with an annual turnover of 1.3 billion euros, and growth expectations of around 15% per year. For all these reasons, boosting the cybersecurity ecosystem is one of the priorities of the Spain Digital Agenda 2025 and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, through the promotion of entrepreneurship, support for R&D&I in cybersecurity, acceleration programs for the growth of start-ups, the promotion of internationalization and the identification and development of talent in cybersecurity, among others.

Currently, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation has a consultation open to identify proposals for strengthening the cybersecurity capabilities of SMEs and boosting the sector's industry.

Likewise, through the National Cybersecurity Institute, several programs will soon be launched, dedicated, on the one hand, to entrepreneurship through public-private collaboration, technological training of companies and the promotion of internationalization, and, on the other hand, the promotion of innovation in cybersecurity through innovative public procurement.
