The monthly payroll of Social Security contributory benefits amounted to 10,136.20 million Euros as of April 1, 2.60% more than in April of last year. More than two thirds of the payroll, 7,289.05 million Euros, went to the payment of retirement pensions. This amount experienced a growth of over 3.18% in the last twelve months.
The number of retirement pensions stood at 6,141,415 and the average retirement pension was 1,186.87 euros, reflecting an increase of 2.40% from the same month last year.
The two largest groups of pensioners are those in the General Regime (4.4 million) and the self-employed (1.3 million). The difference between their average pensions is 541 euros.
The difference between average retirement pensions by gender is 275 euros per month, with a tendency to decrease.
On the other hand, new registrations in March, the latest available date, averaged 1,395.74 euros.
