One year after the first state of alarm was declared in March last year, many domestic habits of citizens have changed. Periods of forced confinement at home, teleworking and 'telecolegio', limitations to geographical mobility as well as time restrictions for consumption and leisure have made the presence at home a constant in the daily life of a large part of the population.
The increased time spent at home and the consequent increase in household chores have caused, among other things, a considerable increase in the demand and use of all types of household appliances as well as their breakdowns. According to data from insurance companies, appliance repair services during the last 12 months have increased by 29.5% compared to the same period of the previous year. In fact, together with boiler repairs (which have increased by 34%), they have been the home assistance services that have grown the most during the pandemic.
By type, the highest number of breakdowns corresponded to appliances related to washing, such as washing machines and dishwashers, followed by refrigerators and cooking appliances, such as glass-ceramic hobs and ovens.
As mentioned above, the almost permanent presence in homes is imposing new habits on citizens, such as the demand to live in cleaner domestic environments, the need to cook in a more varied and intense way than before, as well as the increased use of refrigerators and freezers to store the contents of larger and larger shopping baskets.
